Jessica Jones: Season 3
Jessica Jones or how I got emotionally attached to a Marvel underdog
I don’t like superhero movies. I never liked the concept of being gifted, wearing a cape and fighting evil. Who’s to decide what’s evil? Was Thanos evil? or KingPin(Wilson Fisk)? They had good intentions. It’s all so relative.
The only superhero movies I like were the ones where there was a decent bad guy with history, chemistry, reasons and good writing behind him. It all started with Nolan’s trilogy. Nolan fetishized the “dark” genre. And brought good acting, cinematography and script into the game. And for a very long time I couldn’t find another superhero movie that felt similar.
In 2015 Netflix was fiercely advertising Daredevil, a new series to debut on the streaming network. A Marvel superhero I’ve never heard about before. Then there was this song
Daredevil was a fantastic series. I was blown away by its villain Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). It was the epitome of a good guy-bad guy conundrum. By that time I was already game. I was in. I was invested in this new project Netflix was developing with Marvel where there were to be 4 different TV Shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and a cross-over Defenders.
Next came Jessica Jones. Another superhero I never heard about. And here happened the unthinkable. Even in the case of Nolan trilogy (DC) or Daredevil (Marvel) I liked the villains, the bad guys. In Jessica Jones, I liked Jessica Jones. I liked the protagonist.
Jessica is a no-bullshit superhero. She doesn’t even try to be a superhero, fight evil or smth. She just wants to be left alone but evil finds its way back to her. Jessica is the only superhero I really, truly care about. The only superhero I’d have a drink with. The only character I’d like to do smth for or be a roommate with. She’s a fantastic human being. She’s decent. Her ego doesn’t brake your face. She cares. She values friendships and human life.
NEW YORK CITY. It’s portrayed in the best way possible in Jessica Jones. Even better than in Daredevil. It’s the Hell’s Kitchen part of Manhattan. I can feel the smell of the streets, the people, the noise, police sirens, rain, sun, buildings. A superhero I love in the city I love. Can it BE any better?
All 3 seasons were fantastic. I don’t agree with the backlash on season 3. It was fantastic to me. Trish as Hellcat. She was annoying — yeah. But the rivalry between Trish and Jessica is top-notch.
It’s extremely sad that Netflix canceled the series because of some rights issue with Disney & Marvel. It really had great ratings.
