The Batman: Bruce Wayne is a virgin?

I am disappointed. I am disappointed like the mother of an insanely promising child would be if they came 99% into being the first person on Mars but just turned around and left.

Visuals: The Batman is fantastically shot. You can pause each and every shot and it would be a masterpiece. I have no idea how they reached this level of perfection. They shot this in nighttime only, there’s no daytime scenes. But contrary to Game of Thrones’s last season and Dune, The Batman team mastered this to unreal perfection. Batman 2022 is probably the best looking film (not just Batman film) I’ve seen. They did a great experiment with mounting a camera on a bike and let Bruce Wayne ride it. I’d watch that part again. And the night shots 😩😍

Batman, the character was the best Batman imho. Sorry everybody else, but Pattinson is my fav Batman now. I’d be honest, even though I liked Batman movies in the past, I didn’t like any live action Batman character until now. He seemed like a jerk. But Matt Reeves’s Batman/Bruce Wayne is the representation of the new, emerging, transforming and sexy masculinity that is less toxic and more in touch with its femininity. One of the reviewers said Bruce Wayne might be a virgin here considering his and Catwoman’s scenes. He said it mockingly, like it’s a bad thing and I’d like to talk about it. Virgin? He might and he might not but the fact that he isn’t throwing himself at each and every woman he meets doesn’t mean he’s a virgin. He’s just a decent man. I’m so glad Bruce isn’t some arrogant playboy here. That made him hotter in my eyes🔥 Sex was a major driving force in Batman films. The character was the first crush for lots of women. But he can’t be that now if he keeps his old ways. I liked how he didn’t flirt at all with Catwoman and only subtly considered smth after she willingly consented. But I also love how sex and women and especially money were the last thing on Bruce’s mind. And to think of it, he’s really young here, like mid 20s yet insanely mature.

But, starting off as being probably one of the best films this year, accelerating correctly, The Batman fell short at the end. It was almost like they didn’t have the final guts to pull it off and to make this a truly generation defining masterpiece. Maybe Reeves & co were scared if they diverged too much from “what Batman is supposed to be” they’d lose box-office and DC desperately needs catching up to do with Marvel in terms of box-office. Batman is DC’s best character (and has been a money driver so far) and they didn’t wanna risk it especially with the new Spider-Man somehow becoming such a box-office hit.

Spoilers ahead now ladies and gents as I can’t explain further why The Batman ended up disappointing me in the end without spoilers. But the fact that The Batman disappointed me doesn’t mean it’s a bad film. It’s a great film and deserves a watch, in the cinemas!

I’ll start with some minor flaws.. But bear in mind that if this was any other film, I wouldn’t mention these. I feel like the teacher of the smartest kid in the class who got 99/100 and instead of congratulating I am pointing out their small mistakes. And this is a major compliment 😏

• The “I am Vengeance” scenes were too cringe, felt too pushy and unintentionally funny.
• I didn’t understand why the police didn’t unmask the Batman in the church scene, they had a lot of time to do that.
• It’s unrealistic that the NYC District Attorney sold himself out to the mob for $10K as he claimed in the church scene. I didn’t hear if that was $10K per month or per year but NYC DAs make $300K per year and to become the Mafia’s puppy you’ll at least bargain for $1M+.
• Alfred was nonexistent in this Batman installation. I still believe that Michael Caine is the best Alfred and it’s impossible to outdo him. This Alfred was stupid, small and meh.

But these are flaws that were easily overshadowed by the perfect visuals and it came down to one big, gigantic mismatch that left me feeling ..disappointed. The Batman was going in an unprecedented direction where Thomas Wayne is a bad guy, and Gotham doesn’t need Batman but needs Bruce Wayne. Had this film ended by continuing to show how corrupt the father Wayne was and let Bruce unmask himself and dedicate himself to helping the city as Bruce Wayne — Batman 2022 would've been a masterpiece worthy of being in the Top 5 Best Films of All Time. But alas, $ > Art.

I can’t believe that we’ve come to a place where superhero movies are the norm, the general, the usual, the average and the main category of film. Not only that, superhero movies are the reason Cinemas survive. And it will be on their shoulders to create, forge, polish and advance the art, and screenplay aspects of filmmaking. The Batman 2022 did a great job with that.
